For those who want an authentic experience 1865 is not a hotel. It is a guest house run by the owners. We will treat you as our visitors and will make you feel at home, looking after you and suggesting the best places and events not to be missed. Above all we will help you to experience the city, so that you will not be a mere tourist.

Science in the kitchen, or the art of eating well

This is the title of a book of recipes by Pellegrino Artusi (1820-1911), one of the most widely read and translated cookery books in the world. Artusi lived just nearby in Piazza d'Azeglio, and he is an inspiration for our breakfasts which, thanks to our small number of guests, we can make with the best quality fresh produce: bread, jam, croissants, ham, cheese, fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, and hot dishes on request. Breakfast is served each morning in our red room, the Artusi Room, on a large central table.

At your disposition in the Artusi Room:

  • Italian coffee machine
  • Kettle
  • Tea, herbal teas
  • Mineral water
  • A library of books in various languages about Florence and the local neighbourhood, as well as books by the authors for whom the rooms are named, and by other writers of the same period
  • opera librettos

Available on request:

  • Restaurant and theatre bookings
  • Shopping advice
  • Babysitting service
  • A tour guide service, with personalised itineraries
  • Access to a nearby gym and spa
  • Bicycle rentals

There are no steps at the entrance to the building, nor inside our guest house. A lift takes you directly to our floor.
